I’m travelling through Japan this week so I thought it might be good to look at the media landscape for digital in 2018.

If you compare this year to last year, things are mostly looking the same, just inflated. There are three notable things we can learn from the below chart when thinking about 2018:

  1. Twitter still holds the top crown for social media in Japan, and isn’t slowing down at all.
  2. Instagram is still growing rapidly, and was much more relevant in 2017 over 2016.
  3. Facebook maintains a strong user base that is slowly growing, although Instagram could overcome Facebook in the next year or two if current trends continue.
